Categories provide a powerful way to label the businesses visiting your website, making identification and processing easier.
Categories serve as persistent tags attached to companies, regardless of their sales stage. For instance, this portal identifies competitors, high-value accounts, various ICP types, suppliers, universities and more.
To create a new category simply give it a name and choose a colour for it.
This colour will be used to highlight businesses within this category in the visitor list.
If you want to automatically categorise businesses when they visit, click 'yes' to auto categorise and define the categorisation rule.
Having defined the rule, you can optionally apply it to businesses who’ve visited in the past as well as those who visit in the future by checking this box.
Note: that it can take up to twenty-four hours to complete the backdating process.
When you save the category, it will appear in the list at the bottom of the page where you can view the rule behind any auto categorisations by hovering over the eye icon on its row in the table.
You can also edit and delete categories using the options to the right.
In the visitor list, you can display assigned categories by adding the category column. You have two options: short categories, shown as small, coloured squares which allow you to hover over the square to see the category name, or extended categories, which display the category name in the chosen colour. Your choice may depend on the available screen size and the number of columns you want to display.
Assigned categories are also shown in the categories section of the actions tab in the visit details pane on the right.
Categories can also be used to filter the visitor list. For example, you might only want to see visits from businesses in one of the three ICP categories.
Categories can also be used as part of the criteria of a trigger report.
As well as any auto categorisation defined as part of the category setup, there are three other ways you can set a category for a business.
- Firstly, you can manually set it in the visitor list, either from the menu at the end of each row or from the actions tab of the visit details pane.
- Secondly, you can set a category with a filter by adding a categorise action and selecting the required category.
- And finally, you can use a data manager list to set a category.
